Merriam-Webster Dictionary now available for the iPod

Not only can the iPod carry all of your tunes, it can make you smarter. First we heard that Wikipedia would be hitting Apple’s ubiquitous player. Now a dictionary will be available (So you can look up ubiquitous if you need to). The Merriam-Webster Dictionary will be available for download to the iPod, thanks to a collaboration between the publisher and iPREPpress.

The download version includes 40,000 words and definitions, along with an abbreviation guide, pronunciation guide and handbook of style. It’s set up for easy clicking and scrolling with a hierarchical menu and hyperlinked entries. You don’t have to interrupt the playing of your songs to check out a word, either. It will cost $14.95 for a download, but is available at an introductory price of $9.95.

This is just the first of several offerings that will be available from Merriam-Webster. Within the next two months you will also be able to get the pocket thesaurus, rhyming dictionary, pocket atlas and dictionary of quotations.
